• This method advises teachers to consider their students as “whole persons”.
• Whole-persons learning means that teachers consider not only their students’ intellect, but also have some understanding of the relationship among students’ feelings, physical reactions, instinctive protective reactions, and desire to learn
• CLL takes its principle from Counseling learning approach developed by A. Curran.
• According to Curran , adults often feel threatened by a new learning situation and he believed that a way to deal with the fears of students is for teachers to become “language counselors”.
• CLL belong to a set of foreign language teaching practices described as humanistic approach.
• Humanistic approach engage the whole person, including the emotions and feelings.
• CLL is also linked with a set of practices used in certain kinds of bilingual education programs proposed by Mackey as “language alternation”.
• In language alternation, a message/ lesson/is presented first in native language and then again in the second language.

The students know the meaning and flow of an L2 message from their recall of the parallel meaning and flow of L1 message.
